It's hard to imagine that after all these years of working, I spent some time last year having to prove myself while training someone straight out of university - and I lost!
After doing the job competently, working long days and connecting with people across the organisation, I was told to train her on everything I was doing. Next there was a game of 'oh yes we'll extend your contract' and 'oh no we won't' (pantomime voice!). This pantomime went on for a few months until I decided I'd had enough and deserved alot more respect. So I resigned.
What was the affect when I resigned? My Manager asked me if the student had picked up everything I was doing - so it was clear what was happening.... the Office Junior was being given my job. I'll blog again soon about how I handled this but until then how have you handled these situations?

I've just started and there's alot more to say...
Hi I'm Esther and this is my new blog for us 30 and 40 something women who have found it's got tougher to hold onto our place in the corporate world...
If you're stuck between a manager and lower levels, not given the authority you deserve and now there's a younger person you're having to 'train' (to do your job), yeah you're trying to hold 'onto your place'.
I hope to share some insight with you on handling this and also would like to hear about your experiences too. If nothing else, this blog will offer you some support, the odd chuckle and help to keep your stilettos on and in the right place :)
